![]() ![]() The SUV has rear parking sensors and on the safety front it also has dual airbags and ABS. ![]() However, there are two USB ports placed on the rear AC vent console and are very helpful to charge devices on the go for the passengers. The dashboard, instrument panel and steering wheel remain the same too. #Tata safari storme 400 review Bluetooth#Just like the regular Storme, it has a Java Black interior theme with silver accents, a Harman Music system with ConnectNext technology that has bluetooth telephony, audio streaming and steering mounted controls too. The interiors of the Storme 400 are unchanged. The other visual difference is the addition of a new badge, placed on both front fenders and reads Varicor 400. The fitment though is tacky and we later learnt that these two things are available as accessories are are not part of standard equipment. The Storme 400 we drove had a stone deflector fitted and also a hood scoop, which gives a better presence to the vehicle. The headlamps remain the same projector ones which are very good ones. From far they do look like regular rubbing strips, until they switch on and reveal the new addition in this SUV. The first thing that is immediately noticed, is the new set of DRLs (Daytime Running Lights), which are LEDs and are placed on the front bumper. This is quite a substantial increase from the same 2.2-litre Varicor engine and we were eager to try out this beast.įrom the outside, the Safari Storme 400 is the same as the current version, however it receives some upgrades. The 400 suffix means that this SUV now has an improved torque of 400Nm, which was earlier 320Nm. Tata Motors has been upgrading its products apart from launching new ones and the Safari Storme which was launched in 2012, has now got another shot in the arm, called the Safari Storme 400. #Tata safari storme 400 review upgrade#We find out what this upgrade is all about. Now if you calculate what you get for this marginal increase in price, like the bump in torque and power, a 6-speed and LED DRLs, you get much more than what you pay incrementally. While the SUV war in the Indian market is heating up and there are several launches lined up for the coming year, one of the most popular Indian SUVs - the Tata Safari Storme has also got a new upgrade, in order to keep up with competition and offer something new to customers for the new year. The Safari Storme 400 is priced at INR 13.53 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi) and is about INR 16,000 more than the model it replaces. Morever, it shows the intent of Tata Motors to keep fighting competition and in the process, keep bettering themselves too. ![]() Frankly, this upgrade is not a very major one but what is does is add more value to the Safari brand. The Safari Storme 400 is available only in the top VX trim and the other variants continue to get the regular Storme specifications. The 6th gear, though is useful only above speeds of 90 km/h. The gear pattern is such that the reverse gear is placed next to the 6th gear and can get a little confusing during slotting. The six-speed gearbox has a slightly better shift quality than the current five-speed gearbox. You can hover around 100 km/h and the tachometer needle stays below 2000 rpm. However, you will notice a much better mid-range performance. The difference becomes stark under hard acceleration.ĮXPAND The new 6-speed gearbox further helps this SUV to run in a more relaxed manner at high speeds. The bump in torque is not significantly noticeable when you drive for the first time, normally within the city. On the move, the Safari Storme retains its virtues like a comfortable ride, a spacious cabin and good all round visibility and the difference comes in performance. One is an increase in torque from 320Nm to 400Nm and also a slight increase power from 148bhp to 154bhp and another change is the addition of a new 6-speed gearbox. There are two main changes in the Safari Storme 400. A thoughtful touch is the introduction of two new USB ports at the rear that help you charge your devices. They are placed just below the rear knee AC vents. There is no change in the seat fabric as well and the second and third row seats also remain unchanged. The Java Black interior theme with silver accents looks good and is pleasing too. The interiors of the Storme 400 are the same, a Harman Music system with Connectnext, which is a bluetooth enabled system and steering mounted controls on the same steering found in the regular Safari Storme. EXPAND The side and rear remain the same but there is a new badging on the front fender that reads ‘Varicor 400’, suggesting the increase in torque. ![]()
